Hair washing festival

For Thai women, washing their hair is a traditional art, corresponding to the name Tang Cau, which means the buns will be thrown higher than the top of the head. What's interesting is that, in Thai culture, that is the way to identify which women are married. Besides, Thai girls' hair is extremely long. Rarely does anyone cut their hair short. They often tie it in a high bun and then attach a silver brooch to fix it. The brooch not only adds to the beauty of a highland mountain girl but also shows their rank in the family. Black hair is due to not using chemicals like in the lowlands, instead they wash with forest leaves to nourish their hair.

The Thai people believe that the way a woman washes her hair is closely related to the safety of her husband, especially when her husband goes to work far away or does dangerous work. To be more specific, to ensure their husband's safety, the girls will not wash their hair until their husband returns.
